FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Employers Can Attract Younger Workers Through Social Networking

Social networking puts employer job postings in front of the young generation of job seeker

(Penhold, AB March 10, 2008) albertaJOBcast from central Alberta announces the release of a cutting edge employee recruiting solution delivered through social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube and iTunes. Employers faced with a tight labour market can use weblogs, audio and video podcasts and pages in social networks to get their job postings and company profiles in front of the younger workforce who don’t always search for jobs in traditional media such as newspapers.

“As a manager looking to hire the right people, I knew they didn’t always read the paper or search online through corporate job sites,” said Dean Owen, a former IT manager and now the developer and Chief Innovation Officer of albertaJOBcast. “Finding access to the gen x and even younger gen y workers is important in order to get their attention and attract them to a company in these times when we are faced with a shortage of labour. These young people aged 18 to 30 are the iPod generation with such things as blogs, YouTube videos and podcasts their preferred method of information gathering”.

With the severe shortage of labour in Alberta, companies anxious to hire workers need to use every avenue available to them to publish job openings and promote their organization as the preferred employer of choice. The new web has a unique culture and it’s important for a company to speak the new web language in order to get their message across. Employer profiles and job ads as audio and video podcasts, called Jobcasts, delivered through social networking sites such as Facebook and YouTube are the ‘new media’ which consumers are turning to for their news, information and employment opportunities. albertaJOBcast advises, produces and publishes Jobcasts in collaboration with an employers HR department. Jobcasts and a white paper on the business case for Jobcasts can be found on albertaJOBcast’s website at http://www.albertajobcast.com/.
