Facebook and Social Networking for Small Business by Jennifer Evans from PCWORLD.ca
Lots of good stuff about Facebook for business but here’s a good take on how it applies to recruiting . . .(my underline)
What other ways are small business using Facebook?
Recruiting: Small businesses typically have challenges with finding talented employees; it’s difficult to compete against some of the bigger brands. One of the great things about social networking is it does equalize the playing field and a properly structured recruitment program run on Facebook can be a great way to collect a set of potentially qualified applicants, and can be a gold mine for recruiters and HR people. One service, Jobster, had 42,000 potential candidates register within their recruitment network on Facebook within a month. This is also one of the few areas where advertising for small business seems to generate a better return on investment. Ernst and Young did some pioneering work with recruiting on Facebook, and saw a good result out of the program. The key like anything else is effectively (and not obtrusively) working to expand your network and walking the fine line between being social, and being annoying. Read the cautionary tale of Harry Joiner and note that inviting 4000+ friends to join you on Facebook may result in your being permanently banned.
Thanks Jennifer for a great take on Facebook . . .
